Sealy High School Students Earn Industry Certifications
The career and technical education department understands the importance of industry certifications. During the 2007/2008 school year, seventy-eight students earned industry certifications in ServeSafe Food Protection Management, NCCER Construction Core, and OSHA.
Sealy Industry Tour
Have you ever wondered what the contents of a brick are, how a military vehicle is made, or what happens at a distribution center? Sealy High School Seniors experienced this first hand during the Sealy Industry Tour. At BAE Systems, the students toured the assembly line from the first bolt and nut to when the military vehicle drove off the line. During the ACME Brick tour, students observed the clay being formed, heated, and stamped into a completed brick. At the WalMart Distribution Center, students watched trucks being unloaded at one end with the products that WalMart sells then at the other end trucks being loaded for shipment to the different WalMart stores the distribution center serves. Students even stopped for lunch at Tony’s.
Sealy Career and Technical Education Department Receives Donation from TCCSI
Have you checked the local newspapers? Our area is in need of highly, qualified welders. Sealy ISD and Blinn College have developed a partnership to teach a welding workforce education course to help trained welders to fill this need. TCCSI has been involved in workforce education from its beginning. In June, TCCSI donated $10,500 to purchase additional and advanced welding equipment to help trained these students to fill the positions in our area. This welding equipment will be used during the day in our agriculture mechanics classes to train our high school schools and at night by our community through the Blinn College course.
Health Science Education
The career and technical education department at Sealy ISD is offering a new program of study this year and that is Health Science Education. The administration at Sealy ISD understands the need of qualified and well-trained health science personal in our area. As our population increases, the demand will only increase. Students completing a health science program will have several options at Sealy High School after graduation. The first option is to enroll in a local college to complete a nursing degree or another degree in the health science field. Sealy High School and the local college will have in place a tech prep agreement in which some of the courses the student completed in high school will count towards college credit at no cost to the student. The second option is for the student to earn a certification in the health science area while in high school then go directly into the workforce after graduation. If you are interested in this new program of study, please stop by the counselor’s office.
